BLOG GIVE AWAY!

This is my 250th POST!! YEE HAA!! So to celebrate that I'm going to be giving away something "Frugal"... It's back to school here.. and when I think back to school I see $$ signs drain my bank account... and it drives me insane.. so I try to be more frugal and get what the kids NEED....

I hit a thrift store in my area after work one day last week and I stumbled upon this book. It amazes me how many people have never read it or know who Amy Dacyczyn is ( that's pronounced decision). This is her first edition of three books of The Tightwad Gazette.

This book is gently used.. ( hey.. I got it cheap!! lol lol) and was published in 1992 so you need to convert today's prices.. ( I mean oil was .79 a gallon in this book and she was upset.. wonder what she thinks now???) But there are still good recipes and ideas in here..

So if you would like a chance to win this book.. here's what you need to do.. Share with me your most FRUGAL tip.. I don't care if I've heard it 30 times or more.. I want to know what works for you!! No tip is worthless!! Leave a post.. and link my blog back on yours. No Blog? That's ok.. just drop me an e-mail... I'd also like to keep this in the US.. due to shipping costs.. since the book cost me pennies.. I don't want to spend a mint shipping.. sorry...

Ok.. so dish.. tell me your best tip.. recipes are welcomed too.. Ü DEADLINE IS FRIDAY NIGHT at 8PM... 8/29/08... so hurry!!

Terri, I was just thinking the other day I should get one of her books.....

My #1 biggest money saver is CLOTH DIAPERS, PULLUPS, and WIPES.....it saves us at least $120 a month. With 2 in diaeprs and 2 in pullups at night, that adds up quickly!

And don't buy the things...make them yourself. You can join co-ops to get the fabric cheaper, and they are super easy to sew.

God Bless,
Hope

Washing ziplock bags. Not the ones that had meat in them, but I just put hot soapy water in them and close it up. Shake shake and let them dry. You can reuse them a few more times. It is a pretty good saver. My mom taught me that one.

I reuse a lot of stuff. Ziplocks for my cereal in the am, bags from the grocery store, and CVS! I heart that store with some good coupons!

Congratulations Terri! You totally rock!!!

I'd say my biggest money saver is forcing my children to take lunch to school, rather than buy lunch. If I was buying lunch for all 3 kids every day...it would be around $110/month. OUTRAGEOUS! So, I refuse to do it.

And I buy big boxes of snacks, divide them into baggies, which I reuse...to save even more!

Oh Boy, this is an age old problem. You know i live in Sunny South Africa, so i am not leaving a comment to win the book, but because i love to read your blog!
My kids travel about 70km per day to school, they leave at 6am, so, i have to spoil them by giving them breafast in bed.
So, my tip is not on saving any money, but to remember to love them to pieces, and to make home such a special place that they will always want to come back!
love

. . . and I didn't leave you my frugal tip! Recently, I kept track of what we spend on fast food and picking up drinks here and there. I wrote it down for a month -- and was shocked to see what the total was. This is probably a no-brainer for most people, but it forced me to be more careful in that area. Now we have a set budget for the month and the kids know that when we hit that number, we're done.
