Each person should judge his own actions and not compare himself with others. Then he can be proud for what he himself has done. Galatians 6:4

This weekend I got my girls!! 4 of them to be EXACT!!! Rhode Island Reds. Our mission was to head out and find us some baby chicks.. we looked everywhere for layers.. because the waiting for eggs was going to KILL us.. I know... Patience .. Patience.. but I really wanted to see results.

We found a local gal who had baby chicks for sale.. but when we went.. she sold them all.. and was anticipating more this coming week.. My friends hubby piped up and asked if she was willing to sell some layers... she stood for a moment and said.. "sure".. I'll sell you 4 Rhodes... both of them looked at me.. and I said.."sure.. let's do it"...

As you'll notice one of the Rhode's mated with some"other" breed... The kids have called her Vanilla.. but my friend HAD to have her cause she was different... I stuck to the full breeds..
I won't lie.. it's a LOT of work.. the hen house was easy for us as we had an existing shed.. we transformed it for a house for our girls.. we made nesting boxes.. and a roost for them.. their pen is BIG.. and they seem VERY happy...

I have to admit something.. when the lady handed us the chickens.. she had them upside down.. and told us to becareful not to hold them in such a way that we would break their legs... I couldn't do it.. I was to afraid I would break it's legs.. so my friends 12 year old daughter was BRAVE enough to carry my chicken for me... Ü I'll feed them.. take care of them.. but touching them is something I'll have to get use to!!!

On another note.. my daughter got her prom dress!! Prom is in a couple weekends.. and I'll give you a sneak peek at what she bought.. pictures of her in it later will come...

Here's what I'm reading now... I was asked what I did with all the books I read.. Well.. being as frugal as I am.. I have to tell you all my books come from the library.. as fast as I read books.. I couldn't justify buying all of them... however if I did own all of them.. I would share them.. I think reading is AWESOME!! These past two weeks here in New England have been GORGEOUS outside.. so I've been getting up earlier.. and sitting outside to read.. and at night.. I Read for hours.. I'm NOT a TV person.. and rarely chit chat on the phone.. so my extra time I spend reading.. I know.. I'm a nerd.. if you told me when I was a kid I had to read... I would have laughed at you.. I was to busy playing outside.. This is the third book in the series.. I think someone else is reading them along with me.. because I've had to put these on reserve.. It's really GOOD!!

What a BEAUTIFUL dress!

I want chickens! I might be getting worms (for composting) and I want a tiny little farm with a few animals.
I am not sure I would touch the chickens either=)

that dress is beautiful!!

so, the chickens.. my grandmother had.. well, probably still has.. chickens, rabbits, a goat, a sheep and some other random animals. they use the chickens for eggs, the rabbits to eat, etc. it's really kind of cool except for the fact that chickens are gross!! :o) I'm glad I don't think about the while I'm cookin 'em on the grill hehe

Michael and I wanted to get chickens but we can't have farm animals in the association that we live in:( BUMMER!! I am sure they would behave better than the 3 annoying yapper dogs we have next door;)

You will love having fresh eggs! And as you get to know the hens and they get to know you, you will see they have personalities. They are so fun. There usually will be one who is bossy. Let us know when you get your first egg! It may take them a few days to adjust.

Did the woman who sold them to you tell you how old they were? Hopefully they arent too old and on the downhill side of laying.

woo hoo! you go girl! next thing you know you'll have 4 incubators going, like me, and be hatching your own!

wendy........you might want to think about silkie chickens.......they're small....you can keep 'em in a cage in the garage or house and they don't look like chickens so no one would bust you lol.....google 'em and take a look!

That dress is fantastic! Makes me think of Cinderella... which makes me think of that new Steven Curtis Chapman song... oh, don't get me started on the weep fest!

You are so good to get your books at the library. I do that some. And others I buy at a great local "buy, sell, trade" bookstore. But I am weak. And Wal-mart gets a lot of our money anyway, so what's one more book thrown in the buggy?

Oh my - what a gorgeous dress! Makes me wish that as adults we had reasons to get all dressed up like that again. Pretty sad that the only time you really dress up after high school or college, is your weddding day, and since both us us are already married - well, no fun dress up days anymore! :(

That dress is gorgeous! Your girl will be absolutely beautiful! Now prom is not the same as graduation for you guys is it? My daughter's graduation is in a week and half and that is a formal so she'll be in a long gown too.

I've always wondered about those books. You'll have to let us know more about them.

Hey HOW are the chickens doing? I have a question...NOW that you own those little darlings...does that change any when you go to EAT chicken. I lived across the street from my uncles farm and well I had a hard time eating Meat growing up because I got attached to the Rabbits, Chickens, Pigs, Cows that ended up on the table!!!! Ugg Esp One Cow (Fergie) when I came home from School he was gone and I loved that Cow...he was my frined. He ended up being winter meat for our whole family...but I went VEGAN that winter!!!!!

As far as the chicken thing - you were speaking another language! However, I want to wish you the best of luck. I'd love to have fresh eggs!!

I'm a library girl too - can't stand paying for books since I never re-read them!
